Extractions / Oral Surgery (Wisdom Tooth Surgery)

Our dentists make every effort to preserve your natural teeth.

However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease.

When a tooth is malformed, damaged, impacted or ingrown, different procedures are used, but all extractions are considered surgery.

Depending on which tooth is removed, we can offer you a replacement in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic.

Wisdom tooth (third molar) surgery can routinely be performed safely in our clinic. Our modern diagnostic 3-D imaging facility provide an extra safety in removal of impacted / trapped third molars.

FAQ

Do I need my tooth extracted?

Extraction of hopeless teeth are only done as the last resort. Teeth that are mobile and badly decayed unto the roots are usually extracted

What should I expect during an extraction procedure?

A topical anesthetic followed by a local anesthetic are necessary to 'freeze' the area in question. Sometimes it may be felt like the half of the lower jaw is numb or just a localized area.

How long is the healing process?

There may be some swelling at around 48-72hrs post procedure. This will be minimized  by medication. It will normally take a week to recover, but the wound may take up to 1-3 months to fully closed up.
